
Austin Film Festival Unveils Diverse 33rd Annual Program

The 33rd Austin Film Festival will commence with a captivating opening night, featuring Jesse Eisenberg's latest directorial effort, "The Debut." This highly anticipated film, starring the acclaimed Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti, sets a high standard for the festival's diverse offerings. Following this, Tony Gilroy's gripping feature, "Behemoth!," with Pedro Pascal in a leading role, has been selected as the festival's centerpiece, further highlighting the event's commitment to presenting compelling and star-studded productions.
Among the newly added films to the festival's extensive lineup are several notable works. Florian Zeller's "Bunker" boasts an impressive cast including Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz, Paul Dano, Stephen Graham, and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Simon Stone's "Elsinore" offers a biographical look into the life of the celebrated actor Ian Charleson, with Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman taking on key roles. Additionally, "Purgatory," a heartfelt coming-of-age comedy-drama, promises engaging performances from Abby Elliott, Jack Innanen, John Reynolds, and J.K. Simmons, providing a blend of humor and poignant narrative.
Beyond the primary selections, the festival will present an array of other distinguished films. Audiences can look forward to Jordan Firstman's "Club Kid," Pedro Almodóvar's "Bitter Christmas," Andrew Morgan's "Bleeding Hearts," and James Gray's "Paper Tiger." This broad selection ensures a rich cinematic journey for all attendees, encompassing various genres and narrative styles from both established and emerging talents.
The festival will also welcome a distinguished roster of industry professionals, enhancing the experience with their presence and expertise. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with figures such as Michael Arndt, known for "Little Miss Sunshine"; Brad Bird and Patton Oswalt, the creative minds behind "Ray Gunn"; Edward Burns from "Beneath the Blue Suburban Skies"; Andrew Haigh of "A Long Winter"; Frank Marshall, celebrated for "Paper Moon"; and Samy Burch, writer of "This Is the One They'll Remember Me By," among many others.
A significant component of the Austin Film Festival is its Writers Conference, which includes a series of engaging panels. New additions to the panel discussions feature "A Conversation with Jim Downey," an in-depth look "Inside the Making of 'Friday Night Lights'," and a session dedicated to "Inside the Making of 'Lanterns'." There will also be discussions on "Inside the Writers' Room: 'Family Guy'" and "On Crafting Enduring Characters in a Sitcom World." A special highlight will be "Script to Screen: The Town with Peter Craig," where Craig will also conduct a live reading of his unproduced screenplay, "Wild Four O’clock," offering a unique glimpse into the creative process.
