Black Bear has officially secured the domestic distribution rights for the upcoming romantic comedy titled 'Honeymoon / Funeral.' This highly anticipated film boasts a talented ensemble cast, featuring Rebecca Ferguson, Greta Lee, and Carrie Coon in leading roles. The acquisition was finalized during the recently established film market at the Toronto International Film Festival, marking a significant step for the project's journey to screens.

The narrative of 'Honeymoon / Funeral' revolves around two distinct female protagonists, portrayed by Ferguson and Lee, whose paths converge on an airplane journey from Los Angeles to London. One character finds herself on a solitary honeymoon, having been left at the altar, while the other is traveling back for her mother's funeral. Their shared week together promises a blend of humor, emotion, and unexpected connections. The movie is helmed by 'Totally Killer' director Nahnatchka Khan, with a compelling script crafted by Julia Bicknell.

Katie Anderson, Black Bear's EVP of Acquisitions, expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the film's originality and deeply human story. She praised the performances of Ferguson, Lee, and Coon, recognizing them as some of today's finest actresses. Black Bear is eager to collaborate with MRC and FilmNation to bring this unique world, envisioned by Nahnatchka and Julia, to a wide audience. The film recently concluded principal photography in London in September 2026 and is currently in the post-production phase. Khan and Jennifer Carreras produced the film under the Fierce Baby banner, with Bicknell also serving as a producer. MRC provided the financing and production oversight, while FilmNation Entertainment handled worldwide sales. This collaboration underscores a commitment to delivering engaging and impactful cinematic experiences.

This film's acquisition by Black Bear, a company known for supporting diverse and compelling stories, highlights the ongoing demand for narratives that explore the complexities of human relationships with both humor and heart. It's a testament to the power of cinema to unite audiences through shared laughter and poignant moments, encouraging empathy and understanding across different life experiences. The film is poised to offer a fresh perspective on love, loss, and the serendipitous encounters that shape our lives.
