Chris LaMartina, the innovative mind responsible for the much-loved 'WNUF Halloween Special,' is back with an intriguing new seasonal film titled 'Spirit Tasting.' This project is a New Year's Eve-themed horror offering from Terror Vision Original Productions, marking another addition to LaMartina's distinctive body of work.
The official narrative of 'Spirit Tasting' draws inspiration from classic cautionary tales like 'The Monkey's Paw,' reinterpreted with a post-punk sensibility. The story centers on three former punk band members — portrayed by Sean Doherty, Melissa LaMartina, and Trevor Wilhelms — who gather at a distillery on New Year's Eve to honor their deceased bandmate. There, a peculiar sommelier, played by Matt Lake, invites them to an exclusive tasting session. The catch: each bottle requires a wish. As their desires manifest into disastrous outcomes, the friends realize that every pour at the Red Bat Distillery demands a fatal price.
The film's cast also includes talents such as Matt Baughman, Cate Paris, and Tatiana Nya Ford, alongside special appearances from horror genre veterans like Grady Hendrix, Clay McLeod Chapman, Peaches Christ, and Henry Zebrowski. Chris LaMartina took on the dual role of director and editor, co-writing the screenplay with Michael Varrati. The production team comprises Melissa LaMartina, Chris LaMartina, Michael Varrati, and Ted Geoghegan, with Ryan Graveface serving as executive producer.
Embracing the spirit of legendary B-movie auteurs like Roger Corman, 'Spirit Tasting' was brought to life on a tight budget of $40,000, filmed over an intense four-day period. This ambitious production timeline was deliberately chosen to coincide with Chris LaMartina's 40th birthday, adding a personal touch to the project's rapid creation.
Following its completion, 'Spirit Tasting' is set to embark on a nationwide holiday roadshow, with specific dates anticipated to be announced spanning from November into early January. Chris LaMartina and several cast members are expected to attend each stop, offering fans a unique opportunity for interaction. A Blu-ray release will follow the conclusion of the roadshow, making the film accessible to a wider audience.
