DC and HBO initially announced the animated series "My Adventures with Green Lantern" back in 2025. Since then, official updates have been scarce, building anticipation among fans. However, during this year's Annecy International Animation Festival, a brief preview offered a glimpse into the project, though no public release followed. Recently, Peter Safran, co-lead of DC Studios, finally provided a crucial update, shedding light on the series' progress and scope.
In a discussion with Collider, Safran confirmed that the inaugural season of "My Adventures with Green Lantern" will feature 10 episodes, each approximately half an hour in length. This structure mirrors the seasonal format of its predecessor, "My Adventures with Superman," from which it originates as a spin-off. Safran noted that while the Green Lantern series will introduce distinct themes due to its new cast of characters, it aims to maintain a "tonally similar" feel to the Superman show, suggesting a blend of traditional comic book action with anime-inspired aesthetics.
"My Adventures with Green Lantern" will center on Jessica Cruz, a character first introduced in the third season of "My Adventures with Superman." The series will explore her challenges as she balances her emerging heroic responsibilities with her life as a student at Hal Jordan Memorial High. Unlike the Superman series, which drew heavily from shōnen anime, Cruz's narrative appears to be more influenced by magical girl anime, such as Sailor Moon, as indicated by footage shown at Annecy. The show will also feature other prominent Green Lantern figures, including Kyle Rayner and Kilowog. Auliʻi Cravalho, known for her role in "Moana," will lend her voice to Jessica Cruz. While no official release date has been announced, Safran revealed that the production team is actively reviewing animatics and animation sequences.
Despite the promising developments surrounding "My Adventures with Green Lantern," its production presents a potential drawback for fans of "My Adventures with Superman." The same creative team responsible for the Superman series is now spearheading the Green Lantern spin-off, suggesting a possible delay before viewers see Clark, Lois, Jimmy, and Kara again. The third season of "My Adventures with Superman" premiered earlier this year, yet there has been no official confirmation of a fourth season. Safran indicated to Collider that the series' future remains "up in the air at the moment."
In a conversation with The Ringer, Jake Wyatt, co-showrunner of "My Adventures with Superman," shared that Safran and James Gunn had encouraged the team to weave plans for a potential fourth season into the latter episodes of season three. While not a definitive confirmation of cancellation, this detail, coupled with the absence of a renewal announcement, does not entirely inspire confidence. With the team fully engaged in the production of "My Adventures with Green Lantern," any potential fourth season for "My Adventures with Superman" would likely be a considerable time away. Nevertheless, if a renewal is eventually granted, the creative team has a clear vision for the show's future direction.
