Elizabeth Banks, known for her role as Effie Trinket in the initial 'Hunger Games' film series, has enthusiastically endorsed the forthcoming prequel, 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.'
She recently expressed her admiration for the movie, stating at the Airbnb.org Gala in Los Angeles that the film is "amazing" after having viewed it. The narrative of this new installment, derived from Suzanne Collins' 2025 novel, focuses on a younger Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, as he navigates the brutal 50th Hunger Games. Banks specifically lauded Zada's performance, calling it "perfect" and anticipating audiences' positive reception. The film also features an impressive ensemble cast, with Jesse Plemons taking on the role of Plutarch, Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Maya Hawke as Wiress, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, alongside new characters introduced by talents such as Mckenna Grace, Glenn Close, and Whitney Peak.
Joseph Zada recounted his memorable experiences during filming, particularly his first day on the Cornucopia set, surrounded by 47 other young actors and a massive drone, creating a unique and intense atmosphere that fueled his character's portrayal. He also spoke highly of working with Jesse Plemons, describing their scenes together as dynamic and effortless. Zada shared an amusing anecdote about Glenn Close, who, despite her lovely demeanor, would playfully growl and hiss at him when in character, a testament to her immersive acting and good-natured humor. He praised her as an incredibly generous and supportive colleague both on and off set. 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping' is scheduled for release in cinemas on November 20, distributed by Lionsgate.
This upcoming film promises to enrich the beloved 'Hunger Games' universe by exploring the origins of a pivotal character and expanding on the lore that captivated millions. It stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of the franchise, showcasing how new talent can breathe fresh life into established roles while honoring the legacy of the original cast. The positive reception from a former star like Elizabeth Banks not only builds anticipation but also underscores the dedication and quality invested in continuing this compelling saga.
