While the ZX Spectrum may predate many, the allure of a full computer neatly contained within a keyboard remains timeless. Fast forward to today, HP introduces its latest innovation: the EliteBoard G2a. This modern keyboard-integrated PC carries a significantly higher price tag than its historical predecessors, marking a new era in compact computing.
The EliteBoard series first emerged with the G1a at CES 2026, featuring a Kraken Point APU and an integrated Radeon 860M GPU, comparable in power to the Steam Deck. Now, HP presents a significant upgrade with the EliteBoard G2a, marketed as a 'Next Gen AI PC.' This refreshed model includes a dedicated Copilot key and houses robust hardware specifically engineered for intensive AI workloads within its remarkably slim chassis.
Disguised as an ordinary office keyboard, the EliteBoard G2a is a powerhouse. It supports up to 32 GB of RAM and is powered by an AMD Gorgon Point CPU. The entry-level model in the US, priced at $3,028, comes with 16 GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen AI 5 Pro 435 processor. A key consideration for users is the requirement for a monitor with USB-C connectivity to interface with the device.
A price point exceeding $3,000 is substantial, even for a pre-assembled gaming PC, let alone a keyboard that risks accidental coffee spills. Adding to the deliberation, the base model features a non-detachable USB4 cable. For those desiring a detachable cable, the cost increases to $3,053. Despite its impressive 14.1 x 4.7 x 0.7-inch dimensions and a weight under 700 grams (lighter than the G1a's 780 grams), the premium cost invites users to weigh its convenience against investing in a more traditional, and perhaps more powerful, gaming setup.
The most advanced version of the EliteBoard G2a is equipped with a Ryzen AI 7 Pro 450 processor and 32 GB of RAM. This top-tier model comes with an astonishing price of $4,191. While the compact form factor is undoubtedly impressive, many consumers might prefer to allocate such a budget towards a high-performance, full-sized gaming rig, offering greater flexibility and power for diverse computing needs.
