Two new martial arts features, both starring Mathis Landwehr, have successfully landed significant distribution deals. 'Lion Fist' has secured agreements for release in South Korea, Latin America, and the CIS region, indicating a strong international interest in the film. Concurrently, 'The Last Kumite,' another Landwehr vehicle, has also found a distribution partner for South Korea, expanding its market presence.
Studio DHL has finalized agreements to distribute both 'Lion Fist' and 'The Last Kumite' throughout South Korea, signaling confidence in the films' commercial viability within the region. In addition, 'Lion Fist' has been acquired by Great Movies for Latin America, and Kinologistika LLC has purchased the rights for the CIS territories, further broadening the film's global footprint.
Directed by Taim M. Adams, 'Lion Fist' centers on Joe, portrayed by Landwehr, a recently released prisoner who discovers his son requires urgent, life-saving surgery. To finance the medical procedure, Joe enters a brutal martial arts competition with a substantial prize of $100,000. The film features a strong supporting cast including Gary Daniels, Kurt McKinney, Keith Cooke, and Brice Akuesson, promising intense action sequences choreographed by Mike Möller, with a screenplay by Sean David Lowe and Keith W. Strandberg.
Sean David Lowe and Wayne Graves served as producers for 'Lion Fist,' and they also share producing credits for 'The Last Kumite.' Their collaborative efforts have been instrumental in bringing these martial arts spectacles to the screen. Janice Woo from Cappu Films expressed optimism about these recent distribution successes, noting that the deals significantly broaden the films' international audience and that the team looks forward to securing further partnerships in Tokyo for remaining territories.
Ross W. Clarkson directed 'The Last Kumite,' a film that plunges its protagonist, again played by Landwehr, into a deadly tournament. The fighter is compelled to participate in this perilous contest to rescue his daughter, who has been abducted. The ensemble cast includes martial arts legends Cynthia Rothrock, Billy Blanks, Matthias Hues, and Kurt McKinney, ensuring a compelling and action-packed cinematic experience.
Producer Sean David Lowe emphasized that both films aim to rekindle the nostalgic essence of classic martial arts cinema. He highlighted their successful sales to numerous countries worldwide and expressed confidence in Cappu Films' ability to forge strong partnerships in new markets. This strategic approach seeks to captivate both long-time fans and new audiences with their authentic take on the genre.
Beyond these two martial arts blockbusters, Cappu Films boasts a diverse catalog that includes the French action film 'Red Bird,' Carter Ward's 'Step Back, Doors Closing,' and Francesco Lucente’s fantasy epic 'Starbright.' The company's extensive library spans various genres, including action, horror, fantasy, and arthouse cinema, alongside revered titles from Hong Kong's Golden Era and a selection of television series.
