Simultaneously, the organization has forged a significant alliance with the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth, signaling a strategic move to broaden its international scope and foster cultural exchange within the United Arab Emirates.

The newly appointed board members bring a wealth of experience from various facets of the entertainment industry. These include Aditya S. Ezhuthachan, an entertainment attorney based in Beverly Hills; Niels Juul, a producer known for his work on 'Ferrari' and founder of No Fat Ego; Susanne Ault, Vice President of Event Programming at Variety; and Joyce Liu-Countryman, a producer and interim director of physical production at NBCUniversal. This diverse group is poised to enhance NFMLA's mission of championing independent filmmakers and innovative content creators.

This collaboration with the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth is a pivotal step in NFMLA's global outreach. The partnership will debut during the festival's ongoing 2026 edition, which runs from October 25 to November 1 in Sharjah, recognized as the cultural hub of the UAE. This festival, now in its thirteenth year, has consistently showcased a wide array of international films, providing a platform for emerging filmmakers and Emirati talent. Larry Laboe, co-founder and executive director of NFMLA, expressed enthusiasm for this development, highlighting the value of connecting filmmakers from diverse backgrounds through their storytelling and emphasizing the opportunities for creative education and engagement this partnership will unlock.

NFMLA, through its diverse programming, educational initiatives, and strategic partnerships, consistently endeavors to amplify varied creative voices and equip artists with essential resources and networking opportunities to propel their careers forward. This expansion of its board and its international collaboration with the Sharjah Film Festival underscores its unwavering commitment to nurturing a vibrant and globally interconnected filmmaking community, ultimately enriching the cinematic landscape and fostering a deeper understanding between cultures.
