The acclaimed master of spooky tales, R.L. Stine, is venturing back into the cinematic world with his newest original horror movie, "R.L. Stine's Afraid of Clowns." This highly anticipated film is slated for an exclusive release on the streaming platform Tubi in 2027, marking another exciting collaboration between the celebrated author and the digital streamer.
The upcoming horror flick boasts a compelling cast of talent, featuring the likes of Frankie Honey, Ava Ferrer, Azriel Dalman, and Joe Moore. Adding to the intrigue is the inclusion of Jimbo, the reigning champion from "RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars" Season 8, promising a unique blend of artistry and terror in this thrilling new production.
The official synopsis for "Afraid of Clowns" introduces us to a gripping narrative: "When Ringmaster Rollo and his enigmatic clown ensemble descend upon the town of Redhaven, a young protagonist named Frankie starts to suspect a connection between their arrival and the long-unsolved disappearance of a child years prior. Convinced that the clowns have now set their sights on her younger brother, Frankie must rally her friends to unearth the unsettling truth and put a stop to their sinister plans before her brother vanishes forever."
This forthcoming movie signifies the third joint venture between Tubi and R.L. Stine, following the successful releases of "R.L. Stine's Pumpkinhead" in October 2025 and its sequel, "Pumpkinhead 2," which premiered recently on October 9th. This growing partnership solidifies Tubi's commitment to delivering high-quality, original horror content to its subscribers.
Adam Lewinson, Tubi's Chief Content Officer, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "R.L. Stine has consistently been the entry point into the world of fear for countless enthusiasts, nurturing a lifelong passion for horror. Tubi's collection of R.L. Stine's films offers existing fans an abundance of stories that originally ignited their imaginations, while simultaneously drawing in new viewers to the exhilarating experience of being scared."
R.L. Stine himself shared his insights into the timeless appeal of his chosen subject matter, remarking, "Clowns have been a source of fear for children long before I ever got to explore them. My contribution has simply been to provide them with a compelling reason to truly be afraid of the clowns lurking in Redhaven."
Jem Garrard, who also directed and wrote the preceding "Pumpkinhead" films, is at the helm as both writer and director for "Afraid of Clowns." The production team includes James Mattagne, Joan Waricha, Harvey Kahn, Yvonne Bernard, Dan Bernard, Garrard, Allen Lewis, and Rama Diallo, with Front Street Pictures overseeing the production of the film.
