Robert Pattinson is slated to receive the distinguished 40th American Cinematheque Award, a recognition that celebrates his profound impact on the cinematic landscape. This honor underscores his two-decade career, during which he has consistently demonstrated exceptional versatility and an unwavering commitment to his craft. The award ceremony is scheduled for February 9, 2027, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, where the industry will gather to commend his artistic achievements.
Rick Nicita, chair of the American Cinematheque board, lauded Pattinson for his extraordinary career, emphasizing his fearless creative decisions and remarkable range as a performer. Nicita highlighted Pattinson's ability to seamlessly transition between collaborating with celebrated auteurs and captivating audiences in major studio productions. His career trajectory showcases a continuous pursuit of challenging roles and a profound belief in the power of compelling narratives.
The year 2026 has been particularly active for Pattinson, featuring diverse roles across several high-profile films. He starred alongside Zendaya in the romantic drama “The Drama,” portrayed the antagonist Atinuous in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” and took on the role of journalist Chris Hansen in “Primetime,” a film that also marked the debut of his production company, Icki Eneo Arlo. He concluded the year as a shape-shifting assassin in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three” and is currently filming Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II,” reprising his iconic role as the Caped Crusader.
Pattinson's career is a testament to his expansive range, from his early breakthrough in the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" sagas to his more unconventional and critically acclaimed performances. His filmography includes compelling roles in Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse,” the Safdie brothers’ “Good Time,” Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17,” “Die, My Love” with Jennifer Lawrence, and Nolan’s “Tenet.” This diverse selection of roles underscores his commitment to exploring varied characters and narratives.
Nicita further expressed enthusiasm for Pattinson’s selection, noting his deep affection for cinema and his sustained influence on the industry. The American Cinematheque is delighted that Pattinson’s filming schedule allowed for this timely recognition of his exceptional contributions to film, eagerly anticipating his future endeavors and continued success in the cinematic world.
Pattinson now joins an esteemed group of previous American Cinematheque Award recipients. This prestigious list includes celebrated figures such as Michael B. Jordan, Eddie Murphy, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Jodie Foster, Denzel Washington, Nicole Kidman, and George Clooney. Notably, Denzel Washington will also be Pattinson's co-star in their upcoming film, “The Take.”
Originally, Ryan Gosling was slated to receive the 40th American Cinematheque Award. However, due to a scheduling conflict with the “Project Hail Mary” star, the gala was postponed from its initial November 2 date to 2027. The annual American Cinematheque gala serves as a crucial fundraiser for the non-profit organization, supporting its year-round programming at various iconic Los Angeles venues, including the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, the Los Feliz 3 Theatre, and the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
