Historically, engaging with Soulframe's pre-release phase was a privilege reserved for a select few through invitation-only playtests. However, this is all set to change in the coming week. PC gamers everywhere will soon have the opportunity to delve into the fantasy-themed spin-off of Warframe, completely free of charge. This public debut, known as "Soulframe Open Preludes," is strategically launched in anticipation of the upcoming "Verse of the Veilands" update, promising new adventures and mechanics.
The "Soulframe Open Preludes" is scheduled to go live on November 6th, with the "Verse of the Veilands" update to follow later in the same month. Initially, "Soulframe Open Preludes" will be exclusively available on Windows PC, requiring a direct download from the game's official website rather than through platforms like Steam. This transition away from an invite-only model is a substantial evolution for the game's alpha testing phase, as previous mass admissions typically coincided with events such as TennoCon.
Digital Extremes' decision to broaden access to Soulframe stems from a desire for more comprehensive player feedback. Creative Director Geoff Crookes highlighted in a recent press statement that the timing is perfect, given the introduction of new mounts and expansive world progression systems. This open phase is crucial for collecting essential player impressions on these fresh features, as well as on all the development efforts undertaken thus far.
Crookes' remarks specifically point to significant additions arriving with the "Verse of the Veilands" update in November. Players will be able to explore uncharted territories and cleanse them with the help of a new character, Ode Shrike, who forms a unique pact with the player. After purifying two regions, players can nurture Ode Shrike, eventually evolving it into the Omen Wolf, which serves as Soulframe's inaugural mount, offering new traversal possibilities.
Embracing the festive spirit of Halloween, Digital Extremes has also reactivated the in-game event, Bita's Eve. This special event introduces Veltruska, a new headless horse-riding mini-boss, alongside a mysterious new aquatic creature known as the Sunken Terror, adding seasonal excitement to the game world.
The introduction of "Open Preludes" represents one of the most pivotal developments for Soulframe since its initial announcement. It underscores Digital Extremes' unwavering commitment to bringing this game to a broader audience on Windows PC. While the exact date for the full Windows PC launch remains unconfirmed, this move signals significant progress towards that goal, inviting a larger community to shape the game's futur
